The Three Pillars

Know thyself, through study, stillness and sound.

Our work rests on three pillars: Gnostic study, liturgical sound and meditation, each supporting the others.

△ Gnostic Study ॐ Liturgical Sound ◯ Meditation

Pillar I

Gnostic Study

Historical, textual, and cosmological exploration of Gnostic traditions, with attention to their practices of inner transformation.

We read primary texts in their historical setting and trace how Gnostic ideas developed across traditions and centuries. Alongside the history, we study Gnostic cosmology, including the cosmology of the sacred vowels, and compare how different traditions describe the soul, the cosmos and the path of return.

Throughout, our attention stays on the practical: what these teachings say about inner transformation, and how they can be tested in one's own experience.

ॐ
Pillar II

Liturgical Sound

Study and practice of sacred vocal forms drawn from Vajrayana mantra, Christian liturgy, Sufi dhikr, and Gnostic vowel intonation.

ॐ

Vajrayana Mantra

Sacred syllables of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, recited to steady the mind and align body, speech and awareness. Each mantra is taught with its meaning and pronunciation.

✝

Christian Liturgy

Chant and sung prayer from the early and contemplative Christian traditions, sounded together as an offering of attention and devotion.

∿

Sufi Dhikr

The rhythmic remembrance of the divine through repeated sacred words, joining breath, voice and heart.

Ω

Gnostic Vowel Intonation

The intoning of the sacred vowels, connected in our study to the vowel cosmology of the Gnostic texts.

Transmission

These forms have been handed down from teacher to student for centuries. We aim to learn them faithfully, with respect for their traditions, sources and meaning, and to pass them on in the same spirit. Liturgical sound sits alongside Gnostic study, which gives it context, and meditation, which gives it depth.

What to Expect

  • No singing or spiritual experience required.
  • You may always just listen.
  • Practices are introduced step by step, with their meaning explained.

Pillar III

Meditation

Contemplative methods drawn from Buddhist and Daoist traditions, such as dream yoga and inner alchemy, alongside related practices of chakra work, astral projection, and transmutation.

Dream yoga cultivates awareness through sleep and dreaming, and inner alchemy works with breath, energy and attention to refine the inner life. Alongside these we explore chakra work, astral projection and transmutation, the conserving and refining of creative energy. Each method is introduced gradually, with its sources and purpose explained, and practiced in the stillness that also deepens our liturgical sound.
